The Family Annex
The Family Annex is a pre-school that is affiliated with Columbia University, serving children ranging in ages between 19 months old and five years old. There are three classrooms as well as an art studio and backyard. The philosophy is drawn from the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy, which relies heavily on hands-on exploration and the concept of teachers and children as researchers. They currently serve a diverse, multicultural group of students from Morningside Heights and Harlem.
- The CCS grant will support the program, Family Annex Scholarships for Diversity and Access to Quality Early Childhood Education, which will provide access to educational programs for families from surrounding communities across the socioeconomic spectrum.
- The CCS grant helped Family Annex provide scholarships for families to access quality early childhood education, as well as expand the diversity of their students. The program enrolls children ages 19 months to pre-K, with the majority of families residing or working in West Harlem.
