Founded in 1823, St. Mary's is a faith based, non-sectarian community service center. They host a shelter, food pantry, medical clinic, hot meal program and mobile soup kitchen. Assisted by community volunteers, shoppers select three days’ worth of food for their families from their client-choice pantry. The Outreach Soup Kitchen volunteers prepare 80-100 lunches for hungry and homeless people on the streets and in Harlem-area parks. They also deliver meals by car or on foot and inform people about other free services offered through the church, such as the medical and dental clinic and the free Friday night movie.
They use the CCS grant to purchase food to meet the continued needs of their growing client population which recently served almost 6,000 hot and nutritious meals and distributed food from the pantry to feed over 9,000 people.
