West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s (WSCAH) annual Turkey Challenge has the ambitious goal of providing Thanksgiving meals and turkeys to 5,000 New York families facing food insecurity. Columbia Community Service is proud to support them with a donation of 150 turkeys that were given to WSCAH with help from Columbia Dining on Friday, November 20. The turkeys were distributed to families in immediate need at WSCAH’s West 86th Street location.

During last year’s Turkey Challenge, WSCAH raised more than $100,000, and distributed turkeys and other holiday foods to 2,500 families. In addition to the Turkey Challenge, WSCAH is working tirelessly to help keep the many New Yorkers newly facing food insecurity fed, serving more than 100,000 meals every month.

WSCAH has experienced a 72% increase in customers this year, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. To join the Turkey Challenge Community Coalition and help everyone in New York enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner, text TURKEY to 56512.

Columbia Community Service (CCS) is one of the oldest and most visible manifestations of Columbia, Barnard, and Teachers College’s commitment to our surrounding communities. CCS recently launched its 74th Annual Appeal, which is currently focused on raising $250,000 by December 31. Donations will be used to support food security, health, and education nonprofits in Harlem and Morningside Heights.
